Behind the art for In Between Artist Podcast

While at my art residency in Southern Italy I met Arielle Toelke, a New York based artist, designer, and celebrity make-up artist. Arielle is really great at bringing elements together no matter the medium. You’ll see in her work how she finds harmony and beauty with paper, textiles, dyes, and more. I really enjoyed getting to spend time with Arielle and loved to see her “drawings” come to life. I put drawings in quotations because she is totally a collage artist at heart and draws/sketches with pieces of cut paper.

On one of our many 45 minute walks to the nearest train station, I shared my vision for In Between Artist podcast and why I was ready to turn this concept of mine into a reality. She was super supportive of the podcast and was excited for me. I used my time at the residency to formalize the podcast scope, plan, and even recorded my trailer there. I knew I wanted to use my original Stephanie Squared color palette but I needed some art to really brand the podcast for itself.

As Arielle played around in the studio, I thought what better way to collect someone’s art then a commission. I asked her to create the visual icon for the podcast and she went to town sketching with her pieces of cut paper.

I love how the final art piece came out. I’m actually working on getting her piece cut on a CNC machine to have as signage in the background during my upcoming video podcast recordings.

Thanks again Arielle, you’re the best!

Check out Arielle’s amazing work and her blog post about working on this art piece for me.
